Portion of the Week - A Textual Introduction (Weekly Blog)

An invitation to fall in love with the text of the Torah. This is the best text ever written. This is the text of the Book of Books. Once a week Doron Kalir will ask you to join him in reading together the Portion of the Week. He wants to offer a new reading of the oldest text around, and hopefully to generate exciting discussions.

In many instances, we find ourselves approaching the Biblical text through the eyes of interpretations, midrashim, tosaphot, and several other tools of accumulated wisdom. But the text is there for us -- "it is not in the heavens" for a reason. We may enjoy, be intrigued by, and discuss the Biblical text by approaching it directly. That is what Doron will try to do once a week. His aim is modest: He will highlight two or three points in the text that are of interest to him, in the hope they would appeal to you, too. But he would love this enterprise to be interactive. Through your comments, he will be happy to learn about new and exciting topics to discuss.
