HODESH LIMUD/MONTH OF JEWISH STUDY

The third annual Hodesh Limud/Month of Jewish Study begins on Sunday, January 18 and runs through Sunday, February 15, 2009. The theme for the month is “Jews in the Global Village: Our Neighborhoods, Our Communities, and the World” and the program seeks to engage Jewish adults in learning about the variety of Jewish cultural expressions, Jews in relation to people of other faiths, and Jews as members of the global community. Hodesh Limud offers many avenues for participation: a Keynote program; a series of mini-courses and special programs at synagogues, libraries, and other locations throughout the community; and a Hadran (closing celebration).

Siegal College and the Adult Jewish Learning Council sponsor Hodesh Limud in cooperation with the Jewish Education Center of Cleveland, the Greater Cleveland Board of Rabbis, and the Jewish Community Federation of Cleveland.
The opening event will be held on Sunday, January 18, 2009, 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. at Siegal College with Keynote speaker Rabbi Steve Gutow, Executive Director of the Jewish Council for Public Affairs; a response by Christian Dorsey, African American community leader from Washington, DC; and time for questions. Rabbi Richard Block of The Temple – Tifereth Israel will moderate the discussion.

Offered throughout the month from mid-January to mid-February, twenty-two mini-courses will feature such topics as Jewish Pluralism, Jews and Christians, Being Green in the Global Village, Ashkenazi and Sephardi Cuisine, How Islam Views Judaism, Jewish Music, Interfaith Families, and more. The Hadran (closing celebration) will be on Sunday, February 15, 2009, 2:00 – 3:30 p.m. at Siegal College and will feature Noah Budin and several young creative artists from the community. A fee of $18 covers one or more mini-courses and all special programs. The Keynote, Hadran, and many special programs are free.
Hodesh Limud/Month of Jewish Study is made possible by the Endowment Fund Committee of the Jewish Community Federation of Cleveland.
