Rabbis, Rituals, and Rites: Jews and Judaism in the Comic StripsMonday, October 11 at 7:00pmSiegal College, 26500 Shaker Boulevard, Beachwoodwith Professor Leonard Greenspoon, Klutznick Chair in Jewish Civilization at Creighton UniversityThe comic-strip portrayal of Jews and Judaism is heavy with references to gift-giving, parties, and concerns about food. But historical/ theological matters and the importance of family are not omitted. Most strips that deal with this topic can be judged as favorable, but there are some examples that may be seen as reinforcing questionable stereotypes or misrepresenting Judaism. Professor Greenspoon will analyze this presentation of modern Jewish life and what all of this says about Jews in popular culture. This program is free and open to the public.
