Rabbi Roger C. Klein, PhD, is esteemed at Siegal College for his brilliant teaching during the decade between 1989 and 1999. He is also prized by many Clevelanders who have been enchanted by his concert previews for Cleveland Orchestra performances. He was ordained by the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion in 1971, where he also received a Master of Hebrew Letters degree. While at HUC-JIR, he won an award for the best sermon and was granted a fellowship for further graduate studies. In addition, Rabbi Klein studied for a year at the University of Tubingen in West Germany as an Alexander von Humboldt Fellow and at the Pardes Institute in Jerusalem. He has served congregations in Indiana and Columbus, Ohio and has taught at the University of Kentucky, Wesleyan University in Connecticut, and at The Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion in Jerusalem. In addition, he serves as Assistant Clinical Professor of Family Medicine at the School of Medicine at Case Western Reserve University and is a member of the Advisory Committee of the Department of Bioethics at CWRU. Dedicated to lifelong learning, Rabbi Klein plays a pivotal role in The Temple’s adult learning programs and conducts a well-attended Torah Study class every Shabbat morning. In addition, he cultivates relationships with other religious and educational institutions in Cleveland and around the country. He is intensely involved in the congregation’s life-cycle events, works closely with individuals and families, and oversees The Temple Brotherhood, The Temple Seniors, The Adult Learning Committee, and The Temple’s Caring Congregation Project. We welcome the multi-talented Rabbi Klein as he lectures on "Libraries, Liberty and Liberality."
AN EXHIBIT ON THE HISTORY OF JEWISH PRINTING AND PUBLISHING AS REFLECTED IN THE AARON GARBER LIBRARY COLLECTION
The Aaron Garber Library is celebrating Jewish Book Month 5771 with an exhibit of rare and older books in its collection, several dating back two centuries. Since Daniel Bomberg - one of the first and most prominent Christian printers of Hebrew books – opened his printing house in Venice in the second decade of the 16th century, many illustrious printers and publishing enterprises have brought Jewish publications to the world. Via the treasures in the Aaron Garber Library collection, visitors will get a snapshot of the history of Jewish printing and publishing. The exhibit will be mounted in the Horwitz Collection display cases in the College building foyer between October 20 and December 1, 2010. Thanks to Marla Levine for researching and assembling the items on display.

THE AARON GARBER LIBRARY
In addition to being the library of students and faculty of Siegal College, the Aaron Garber Library is a central resource of the Cleveland Jewish community. Its holdings comprise northern Ohio’s largest Judaica and Hebraica collection, encompassing the vast range of Jewish knowledge. A major advance in the growth of the Library occurred in 1997, when the College’s Board of Trustees crafted an agreement with Case Western Reserve University to place the Library’s newly automated catalog online together with the catalog of all of Case’s libraries. This relationship has made possible Siegal Library’s participation in OhioLINK, the statewide academic electronic catalog system, which includes the libraries of nearly 90 different institutions. With the ongoing support of the College and the Friends, the library is poised to chart a course that keeps pace with rapid changes in society as well as the Jewish world.
FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY AT SIEGAL COLLEGE
Since the 1969 founding of the Women’s Association by Rebecca Brickner z”l, and her Committee of One Hundred, a spirit of commitment, loyalty and generous support has guided the work of the Association’s successors. Friends of the Library has evolved into a successful and productive programming adjunct to the College and provides essential funds for the Library. A major source of funds has been Treasures Gift Shop, founded and run by Mary Ellen Saltzman. With fundraising efforts and the impetus of generous donors, the Friends established endowments that will strengthen and guarantee the future viability of the Library.
